Air-to-Air vs water-to-air intercooler

Postby 2.2GTI » Wed Oct 03, 2012 6:13 pm

Today I found a website that sells both types of intercoolers. I think that the water/air intercooler should be more effective and can thus be smaller for the same application. Is this correct? What is the different applications for these intercoolers and how complicated is the water/air setup? Why are they so rare in SA?

Not website link, but info on the differences on these two types of intercoolers:

Water to air is basically suited to short sprint racing, and is used in conjunction with an external water tank, whereas the air to air is most efficient at continuous medium to high speeds such as circuit racing, where there is air being passed through it constantly.

Also came across this site. The thing is, looking at the cost to bring these in and the labour to modify and fit them, is not gonna make it worthwhile or cost effective for the small power gains.
