hi, guys we almost done with the map on this car, we dont want to push the turbo to the limits, average gain in the midrange is about 20whp and about 40nm with 1.4bar peak boost, working on a new map to keep the boost in longer till the linmiter and might pump midrange a bit more.......the car feels amazing on the road, and makes all the power in normal driving mode....... ;)Mr Alfaholic is happy with results, but i want to play a bit more and get a few more ponies out of the car ......... ;)will upload graph and results soon!!!!! i have managed to smoothen the power band compared to the stock map...... ;)

Alfaholic wrote:Ok some feedback:

This version of the file was tuned to see if we can increase midrange and just generally how the car performs with the small changes...

Throughout the process Leon told me he only made small changes.

The midrange has seen an increase of 20wHP as Leon litterally only played between 3000-5000 rpm not wanting to change the over boost just yet.

We then looked for more peak power and we changed some boost at overboost, peak power didnt increase much but torque did, a 30wNM gain was achieved at peak and only 3wHP at peak with the final version of this map.

More work will go into the map as only timing and boost was adjusted, off the dyno is where the REAL changes are felt...and heard!

The car spools soooooo quick now joh, midrange is great as thats what i was looking for, the punch in N is great, feels just like D...D is just a bit "more" as per normal.

The Graph looks great too as the boost is smooth until over boost where it now stays the same at 1.4bar peak boost...so that is where the power will come from as it stays the same at peak boost.

Leon says hell liaze with the Italian tuners to find the solution.

He also said he actually messed up, he wanted to do another stock run before we flashed the car, so the next development session will see the car flashed back to stock, dyno runs to get a read of before and after on the same day and the same temps etc...we did the power runs in the afternoon abot 3pmish...Ronnie was there too.

All in all some more work is needed, we reckon 20 safe BHP more to compliment the hardware mods.

I, quite happy with the torque as it is now, but it can be a bit more in higher rpm...development work to continue!

hey bud....glad to hear you found someone that can help you with this venture....
Just as advise as i have recently completed a fully worked 1750TBi with the foll:
Complete exhaust and DP .....air intake ( made locally) might not be the best and retuned software.
The peak power from around 5500 rpm on does not increase much....
Check the intake temps...will tell you the ;)solution

next mod for the alfa has to be water/meth, it will get intake temps down also allow us to tune a bit more...... ;)dont want to go to aggressive with the tune , want to design a nice pump fuel map and a race map for meth and ob........

Oooh...STO commenting on FR&R page lol...just joking. Amien you know my requirement was that the tuner be in JHB...I'm you understand and you are willing to share info and tips etc...as this is how I understand your above post.

Who made the INTAKE? As I have an intake from just after the MAF to where the standard airbox used to be ending off in a BMC 76mm Cone Filter. Even when i drive the car hard that thing is still cold, however, I'm not sure where it get's the air from, must be from the engine bay as there is no direct airflow to the filter.

I have Full supersprint exhaust and this intake and then the mild map, I say mild as Leon only boosted it to 1.4 bar which I'm happy with now... I think the final figure is 272BHP and 430-something Nm????(flywheel converted figures I used converters found online)

Maybe some feedback after the map that Leon smoothed out...The car is much more eager, in any gear it just goes and goes and goes, the midrange is more torqier and the top end is there(took it to 260 on the speedo on my home on Friday...) overall the car behaves good, what one would expect from software, remember I had that KAK novitec powerjet tuning box on, and it did not feel like the car feels now...

Do you guys think the fact that the car has this Supersprint exhaust on the turbo is required to WORK(boost) less compared to the standard car???

I like how smooth the map is, its extremely smooth, the car pulls and it does not stop pulling, when i race or drive spiritedly, I change at 5500 to 6000rpm, I NEVER go over anymore since I saw where all the power is made...

Lol...I'm still thinking about this WMI idea...as i told you i am not a racer and don't really want to take the car to the limit of what it can do, I'm quite chuffed that its making 272BHP at ONLY 1.4bar boost while other GQV's are boosting 1.4bar boost standard(I have confirmed this...)

I will add some OB and then see how it goes...

I'm still bugging the guys for a standard GQV...don't worry will get one soon, lemme know when you need the car again.

I was never truely convinced by that argument. Yes the power may drop after 6k rpm but one surely has to take the gear ratios into account (less power in a lower gear may lead to faster acceleration than more power in a higher gear?) and where in the rev range you are dropping back to on the upchange. :)

the car does not boost 1.4 bar on stock map, can post some boost maps as well, the turbo maybe overboosted to that point, we took boost 0.2bar above stock, maybe at coastal level the car can boost 1.4 on stock file, but not up here, done a few more boost changes on the file, so we will try when mr alfaholic is back in town..... ;)
we even stuck a boost guage in the car to check if the turbo is boosting what we asking and it is spot on, i have the stock file for the car and we compared stock and tuned file ....

Yes, 1.4 bar is overboost.

Tfsi...I understand what you say, when I do top end I rev to the limit...

I had the car at the coast 2 weeks ago...DAMN!

It was flawless! Leons says the car boosts more at the coast, it just felt much, much more alive! Then I came back to the highveld and now it feels swak, lol...it feels slow!

More tune! The Alfa guys are watching closely and are already asking reliability questions but nothing broke so far...like Leon said we are focusing on what the car can do. I already have a 500 Abarth driver licking his lips wanting a map from FR&R...also the 159 TBi guys also want some action.

My aim is to take the car to ODI this weekend on the Go Drag day and see what it does...might be with the new map but time is proving difficult.

will keep it updated.
